GREENWOOD – Lander's Breshay Johnson was named the Southeast Region Player of the Year by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) today. Johnson is the first Bearcat to win Southeast Region Player of the Year honors in program history.

The junior from Hopkins, S.C., earned First-Team D2CCA Southeast All-Region honors, while teammate Ty'hesha Reynolds, a senior from Savannah, Ga., was tabbed as a second-team All-Region selection. This marks the first time Lander has had two All-Region honorees since 2011.

Johnson, the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year and first team All-Peach Belt selection, averaged 16.8 points, 9.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.7 steals per game en route to region player of the year honors. She led the PBC in field goal percentage and helped guide the Bearcats to a third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament, where Lander advanced to the Southeast Regional semifinals. Johnson also set a school record with 208 free throw attempts and tied the program record with 141 made free throws on the season.

Reynolds, who was a first-team All-Peach Belt Conference honoree, averaged 15.9 points, 4.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game. She ended her Bearcat career with 1,659 points, second-most in program history, and 458 assists, one shy of tying the school record.

Joining Johnson on the first team is South Atlantic Conference Player of the Year Megan Pittman (Lincoln Memorial), Peach Belt Co-Defensive Player of the Year Alexis Carter (Columbus State), Conference Carolinas Player of the Year Jasmine Kearse (Limestone) and All-SAC selection Madison Lenox (Brevard).

Along with Reynolds, the second team consists of All-PBC selection Ashley Asouzu (Columbus State), All-Conference Carolinas pick Kianna Wynn (Barton), All-SAC honorees Mika Wester (Carson-Newman) and Marta Miscenko (Wingate) and All-SAC selection Terri Rogers (Catawba).

Second team ties were not broken, resulting in a six-member all-region team.

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II Southeast Region schools and conferences selected the two D2CCA All-Southeast Region teams. The process concludes with All-America selections announced later in the month.
