SAVANNAH, Ga. - Led by Ciara Lyons' game-high 20 points, the No. 18 Lander women's basketball team posted an 85-52 Peach Belt Conference victory over Armstrong Atlantic Wednesday evening at Alumni Arena.
Lander improves to 19-4 overall and 14-1 in the PBC, while Armstrong drops to 13-10, 7-8 PBC.
Lyons connected on 7-of-14 field goals and 6-of-9 free throws and also had four steals. Janyce Ealey added a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, Brittni Johnson had 15 points and nine assists, Mukia Myrick 13 points and Precious Elkins 10 points.
The Lady Pirates were led by Mauri Wells and Demisha Mills, who netted 14 and 12 points respectively, while D.D. Gipson added 11. Wells led Armstrong in rebounds with eight.
The Lady Bearcats started the game with a 9-0 run on two Keondra Barnes field goals, and a Lyons' field goal and three-point play.
Armstrong battled back from a 13-2 deficit to take a 16-15 lead with 9:06 left in the first half on Angelia Hill's jumper.
After Hill forced a 22-22 tie with a jumper at 5:35, Lander finished the half with a 13-4 run and 35-26 lead.
The Lady Pirates cut the lead to eight points -- 39-31 -- on a Wells' three with 18:44 left in the game, then an Elkins jumper put Lander up 41-31 at 18:06 and it was double figures the rest of the way.
A pair of Lyons free throws gave Lander its first 20-point lead at 12:08 and a Johnson layup at 9:51 made it 72-42 for a 30-point lead.
Lander's biggest lead of the game came at 37 points when an Ealey jumper made it 82-45.
The Lady Bearcats connected on 33-of-65 field goals for 50.8 percent, including 6-of-15 threes for 40 percent. Lander also made 13-of-17 free throws for 76.5 percent.
Armstrong made 18-of-51 floor shots for 35.3 percent, including 2-of-6 threes for 33.3 percent. The Lady Pirates also sank 14-of-22 foul shots for 63.6 percent.
Lander won the battle of the boards, 40-32.
