GREENWOOD - Lander All-American center Shannon McKever was named the Peach Belt Conference women's basketball Player of the Week for games played Nov. 13-21 it was announced by the league office today. McKever, a senior from Florence, S.C., has led the No. 4-ranked Lady Bearcats to a 4-0 record by averaging 21.3 points, 12.5 rebounds and 6.5 blocked shots per game while shooting 60.3 percent from the field. Lady Bearcats D-2 Tipoff Classic set for this weekend
GREENWOOD – After getting its first taste of the Sweet 16 last March, the Lander women's basketball team couldn't wait to play NCAA Tournament opponents Tusculum and Carson-Newman again. And the feeling is mutual. So everybody agreed to create a little March Madness in November. The coaches believed that playing in November would be a good way to kick off the 2010-11 season.

ATHENS, Ga. – After leading by as many as six points in the first half, the Lander women's basketball team fell victim to No. 19 University of Georgia, 88-50, Wednesday night in an exhibition game in Stegeman Coliseum. Lander, the No. 4-ranked team in NCAA Division II, was led by Shannon McKever, who scored 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds (five offensive) and had three blocked shots. Tasheba Butler added nine points and five rebounds, while Mukia Myrick had eight points and four rebounds.

GREENWOOD - There are many reasons to be optimistic about the 2010-11 Lander women's basketball team. The Lady Bearcats return all 12 players from a squad that went 27-4 last season and advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16. They are ranked No. 8 in the Division II preseason poll. And they are full of talent, experience and depth. The expectations are enough to make some coaches cringe. Teams have been known to crumble under such high expectations.

Lady Bearcats fall short in exhibition upset bid at USC
COLUMBIA – The fourth-ranked Lander women's basketball team made a serious upset bid Friday night in an exhibition game at the University of South Carolina, trailing by only three points with seven minutes to go before falling 79-57 to the Lady Gamecocks at the Colonial Life Center. Division I South Carolina outscored the Lady Bearcats 20-2 over the final five minutes of the game. Division II Lander trailed only 50-47 at the 7:42 mark and had a possession with a chance to tie it.

GREENWOOD - The Lander women's basketball team, which finished 27-4 last year and reached the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, is ranked No. 4 in the country in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches' Poll it was announced Wednesday. The ranking is Lander's highest since joining the NCAA in 1992. Lander, which plays an exhibition game at the University of South Carolina at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 5, returns all its players from last year's Peach Belt Conference championship team that set a school record for victories in a season. The Lady Bearcats will also meet the University of Georgia in an exhibition game at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10. Lander will open the regular season at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 13, when they host No. 3 Tusculum College.

GREENWOOD - Lander's Shannon McKever, a 6-0 senior center from Florence, S.C., was named to the preseason All-Peach Belt Conference team it was announced by the PBC office on Thursday. The team was voted on by the league's 13 head coaches. McKever, who is a two-time All-PBC selection and an honorable mention on the 2010 WBCA All-America team, last year averaged 14.4 points and 9.3 rebounds per game, while shooting 54 percent from the field and leading the PBC with 92 blocked shots.

GREENWOOD - The Lander women's basketball team is the unanimous pick to repeat as the Peach Belt Conference champions this season according to the preseason coaches poll released today. GREENWOOD - The record-setting Lander University women's basketball team is reaping the benefits of last year's season and has been recognized by the Women's Division II Bulletin as the No. 8 team in the country in its preseason poll released today. Lander is coming off the most successful season in the history of its program when it posted a 27-4 record, advanced to the NCAA's Sweet Sixteen for the first time and won the Peach Belt Conference regular-season title.
