GREENWOOD – For the first time since 2002, the Lander softball team will host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, the league announced this week.
Lander, which first hosted the tournament in 1993, will become the fourth school to host the event three times.
"We're very excited to have the opportunity to host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament in 2020," said head coach Glen Crawford. "Doug Spears Field is a excellent venue and the PBC is routinely one of the nation's best softball conferences. We're looking forward to putting on a first-class event."
The Bearcats earned the No. 5 seed in last year's tournament, the program's highest seed in the event since 1998, and advanced to the semifinals. Lander's lone appearance in the tournament championship came in 1993, when the Bearcats hosted.
Lander averaged 181 fans per home game last season, the highest mark in program history. The Bearcats have recorded nine of the 10 largest single-game crowds in program history over the past two seasons.
