GREENWOOD – The Lander softball team suffered a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon as Young Harris downed the Bearcats, 3-2 and 2-0, at Doug Spears Field.
The Mountain Lions improve to 31-7 overall and 11-5 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 15-25, (5-11).
In the first game, YHC's Jeanie Perrucci (14-3) was awarded the win after striking out four and allowing two earned runs on six hits in the complete seven innings.
Lander's McKenzi Ferguson (10-11) took the loss after striking out two, walking six and allowing three earned runs on nine hits in six innings.
Young Harris took a 1-0 lead in the second innning, but Lander responded in the third inning with an RBI single from Destiny Clyde to tie the game and took the lead in the fourth on Halie Sorrow's solo home run.
The Mountain Lions tied the game in the bottom of the fourth on a bases-loaded walk.
After the Bearcats stranded two runners in the top of the seventh, Kelsey Nix's walkoff home run in the bottom of the inning gave Young Harris the win.
For Lander, Clyde batted 3-for-4.
In the second game, Nikkie Kovalsky (14-3) tossed a complete game shutout, walking one, striking out four and scattering seven hits.
Lander's Brianna Surrento (3-11) suffered the loss, walking one and allowing two earned runs on six hits in six innings pitched.
The lone runs of the game came in the sixth inning on an RBI single from Hannah Harrison and a sacrifice fly from Grace Botti.
Lander concludes the weekend Sunday afternoon with a doubleheader at North Georgia.
