No. 8 Lander uses team effort to top USC Sumter, 8-1

SUMTER, S.C. – The No. 8-ranked Lander men's tennis team got points from eight different players as the Bearcats defeated USC Sumter, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon. 

Lander (7-2) began the match with a sweep of doubles as Liam Roos and Alessandro Papalia won at No. 2 doubles with a score of 8-3. Fergus O'Rourke and Luis Salcedo picked up an 8-2 win at No. 3, while Philippe Courteau and Gabriel Balestero posted an 8-2 win at No. 1. 

The Bearcats then took wins at five of the six singles matches. Papalia and Thomas De Negri dominated at No. 6 and No. 4 singles with a pair of 6-0, 6-0 wins. Roos won at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-2 score. Adam Elliget recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 and Courteau rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 12-10 win at No. 1. 

The Bearcats head to Limestone on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. match.
