GREENWOOD – Lander's Eirik Groner, a sophomore from Oslo, Norway, was named the season's final Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, it was announced by the PBC office today.
Groner put the finishing touches on an undefeated regular season as he moved to 18-0 in singles play with wins over Limestone and Columbus State last week. The sophomore beat Limestone's Stefano Soares at #2 singles 6-0, 6-2, then beat Columbus State's Paul Sprengelmeijer at #3 6-1, 6-0. Groner also picked up another point against CSU in doubles, partnering with David Korsten to beat Sprengelmeijer and Vargas 8-5. Groner is the only undefeated player in singles in the PBC this season. He is also 13-5 in doubles play.
The award makes Groner the seventh player in program history to be named PBC Player of the Week and the first Lander underclassman to earn the honor since Paul-Henri Arrigoni in 2011.
