DUE WEST, S.C. – The 16th-ranked Lander men's soccer team rolled past rival Erskine 3-0 to earn its fifth consecutive win over the Flying Fleet on Wednesday night.
The Bearcats (4-0) pressured Erskine (1-3) throughout the night and grabbed the lead just 17 minutes into the match when Sia Jamedar struck for his first goal of the season to put Lander up 1-0.
Lander created numerous chances throughout the night, outshooting the Flying Fleet 20-3, and took advantage in the 44th minute on a header from Kyle Ferguson to Brice Baillet, who managed to stay onsides and raced past the Fleet defense and net a shot inside the near post.
Sinclaire Sandy capped the scoring in the 52nd minute with his first goal of the year, giving the Bearcats a 3-0 advantage, Lander's highest scoring output since a 3-2 win over Alabama-Huntsville in the season opener.
Lander is now 23-1-2 against Erskine since 1993 and has not allowed a goal against the Flying Fleet since 2014.
The Bearcats face another in-state foe on the road Saturday when Lander travels to Limestone for a 7:00 p.m. match.
