ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Lander golf team placed two players on the All-Peach Belt First Team and earned Player and Freshman of the Year honors on the eve of the PBC Championship.
Senior Michal Pospisil became the first Bearcat in history to be named the PBC Men's Golfer of the Year, while Conor Richards became the fourth Bearcat to earn PBC Freshman of the Year honors. Both were named first-team All-PBC.
Lander is just the second men's golf team in Peach Belt history to capture the Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards in the same season and the first since USC Aiken in 2006. The Bearcats placed two players on the All-PBC first-team for the third time in school history and first time since 2010.
Pospisil, a native of Unhost, Czech Republic, is the league's lone golfer with multiple wins on the season. The reigning PBC Individual Champion captured individual titles at the Cougar Invitational and the Bearcat Classic. Pospisil also owns the lowest round of any golfer in the conference this year, shooting a blistering 64 at the UNG Fall Invitational. He is averaging 71.67 strokes per round, the second-lowest average in the league. Pospisil is the first three-time All-PBC selection in program history.
Richards, a freshman from Hampshire, England, ranks 10th in the conference in scoring average and has registered four top-ten finishes on the season. He shot a 65 at the opening round of the Cougar Invitational and owns a 73.37 scoring average.
Lander tees off at the PBC Championship at 11:54 a.m. on Friday morning.
