GREENWOOD – The No. 17-ranked Lander men's golf team fired a tournament-low 287 on Tuesday afternoon to defend their home turf and clinch overall championship at the 8th Annual Bearcat Classic at the par-72, 6,800-yard Greenwood Country Club.
The victory was Lander's first win at the Bearcat Classic since the inaugural tournament in 2010. The event also marked Lander's first overall championship since winning the Pfeiffer Invitational in 2015.
Michal Pospisil earned medalist honors with a 207, winning his second tournament of the season. The senior from Unhost, Czech Republic, won the Cougar Invitational.
Pospisil shot a 9-under par 207 (70-67-70), while Conor Richards came in at 218 (72-73-73) to tie for sixth. Michael Brodie tied for 25th at 223 (77-73-73), James Bartlett tied for 34th at 224 (76-77-71), and Jon Parker tied for 60th at 232 (78-76-78).
The Bearcats, who shot a low 7-over-par 871 for the tournament, had rounds of 295, 289 and 287 to defeat second-place Newberry by seven strokes (878).
