Lander set for Finis Horne Holiday Classic

GREENWOOD – The Lander men's basketball team will square off with Fayetteville State on Friday at 7:30 p.m., and Livingstone on Saturday at 3:30 p.m., in the Finis Horne Holiday Classic.

• The Finis Horne Holiday Classic, named for former Bearcat head coach Finis Horne, is in its eighth season of existence. Coach Horne led the Bearcats to 491 wins during his 29-year career. 

• Lander defeated Livingstone, 68-56, in last year's Finis Horne Holiday Classic. The Bearcats are facing Fayetteville State for the first time in program history. 

• The Bearcats are 5-1 in the last three Holiday Classics. Since 2013, Lander has defeated Coastal Georgia, Lenoir-Rhyne, Ohio Valley, Allen and Livingstone, while suffering its only loss against St. Augustine's.   

• Lander leads the Peach Belt Conference is assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) and in three-pointers made per game (11.3). 

• The Bearcats are one of only three teams in the PBC who are shooting over 40 percent from beyond the arc this season. As a team, the Bearcats are shooting 40.5 percent from long-range, third-best in the conference.

Jarryd Coleman is tied for the conference lead with 4.0 made three-pointers per game this season. The Greenwood native is averaging 13.3 points per game. 

Rahu Purdie and Nicklas Jonsson are both averaging 13.7 points per game through the first three contests of the season.
