TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Lander baseball team surrendered 13 runs in the first four innings to No. 8 North Greenville as the Crusaders defeated the Bearcats 19-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Lander (6-15) dropped the season series to North Greenville (19-5), thanks to the two teams splitting a pair of games in February.
A pair of home runs highlighted a four-run second inning for the Crusaders and after plating another run in the thrid, NGU piled on eight runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 13-0 lead.
The Bearcats' lone run of the day came on an RBI single from Colton Yeager in the top of the sixth. North Greenville tacked on four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth to cap the scoring.
Erik Holton (0-2) took the loss for Lander, allowing four runs on four hits with two strikeouts and a walk in 2.0 innings. NGU's Tucker Burgess (6-1) picked up the win with 2.0 innings of work, holding the Bearcats to one hit while striking out two batters.
Lander travels to Columbus State this weekend for a three-game Peach Belt Conference series.
