Bearcats use three pitchers, four homers to blank Claflin

GREENWOOD – Colton Rogers pitched seven scoreless innings and three different Bearcats homered, leading Lander to a 14-0 non-conference victory over Claflin on Tuesday night at Dolny Stadium.

Lander improves to 18-21 overall, while Claflin drops to 9-27 on the year..

Rogers (4-0) was the winning pitcher, stirking out eight and scattering five hits over seven innings. Matt Thorpe and Erik Holton each worked a scoreless inning of relief for the Bearcats.

Claflin starter Jamal Devine (1-2) took the loss for the Panthers, surrendering six runs on five hits in two innings of work. 

Lander had 18 hits in the game with everyone in the lineup collecting at least one hit, and the seniors combined for 13 hits, two doubles, two homers and 11 RBI.

The Bearcats took an early lead on a solo home run from Alex Conaway in the bottom of the first and increased the advantage with a five-run second inning. Alec Dowell homered for the first time since March 18 to make the score 2-0 and a three-run shot from Mason Dodd put Lander ahead 5-0. Colton Yeager scored on an error later in the inning to give the Bearcats a 6-0 cushion.

Lander increased its lead to 12-0 in the third when Dodd grounded out to score Nathan Schreckengost, Ryan Troutman singled home Reed Gray and Dowell and Conaway blasted a three-run homer, his sixth in 14 games. 

The Bearcats tacked on the final two runs in the eighth inning as Bailey Connell singled to left field to plate Colton Yeager and Conaway scored on a sacrifice fly from Gatlin Minick

Conaway led the Bearcats at the plate, going 2-for-5 with four RBI, while Yeager finished 2-for-4.
