GREENWOOD – The 2016 Lander baseball team will be honored this weekend on Saturday, April 8th, at Dolny Stadium as the Bearcats receive their Southeast Regional championship rings.
The ceremony begins at 1:40 p.m. and will take place on the field. Following the ceremony, the Bearcats will play their second game of a three-game series against Georgia College.
Lander won the Southeast Regional in Columbus, Ga., last spring by defeating Mount Olive, Belmont Abbey and USC Aiken twice to clinch the program's second trip to the Division II Baseball Championships in three seasons. The second-seeded Bearcats trailed for only one inning during the entire regional.
The Bearcats advanced to the semifinals of the eight-team, double-elimination national championship tournament, notching wins over Central Missouri and Southern Indiana, while losing only to eventual national championship finalists Nova Southeastern and Millersville. Lander finished the 2016 season with a 44-16 record, the second-most wins in program history. The Bearcats also became the first team in program history to win multiple games at the Divsion II Baseball Championships.
