Baseball opens homestand Tuesday with Belmont Abbey

GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team opens up a four-game homestand Tuesday night when the Bearcats host Belmont Abbey. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m. at Dolny Stadium.

STORYLINES

 Lander (7-8) opened up Peach Belt Conference play by taking two of three from Montevallo on the road. The Bearcats have now won their opening PBC series in six of the last seven seasons. 

• The Bearcats have hit multiple home runs in four consecutive games. In 15 games this season, Lander has hit at least two homers in six games. 

• Lander has scored multiple runs in 20 innings this season. 

• Eight different Bearcats homered in Lander's series win over Montevallo. The nine home runs last weekend were the most for Lander in a series since the Bearcats hit 12 from March 22-23 at Montevallo in 2014. 

• Lander and Belmont Abbey have played 15 times previously, with the Bearcats leading the series 8-7. The two met last season when Lander defeated the Crusaders 11-4 in the NCAA Southeast Regional.

• The Bearcats dropped the last meeting to Belmont Abbey in Greenwood, 15-9, in 2015. 

• Lander is averaging 357 fans per home game this season, third-highest in the Peach Belt Conference.
