Late offensive outburst pushes Lander past Anderson

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Lander baseball team scored eight runs over the final four innings Tuesday afternoon en route to a 11-2 non-conference victory over Anderson at Memorial Stadium.

Lander improves to 2-6 overall, while Anderson drops to 2-3.

The Bearcats' Colton Rogers (2-0) earned the victory on the mound after striking out eight, walking one and allowing two earned runs on eight hits in 8.0 innings pitched.

Anderson's John McMicking (0-1) took the loss, striking out five and allowing three earned runs on five hits in five innings of work.

Lander took a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Alec Dowell's RBI single and Nathan Schreckengost's two-run homer to right field.

Anderson cut the Bearcat lead to 3-2 in the fourth on Jackson Strange's two-run homer, but Rogers would not allow a run the rest of the way.

Lander stretched the lead to 7-2 in the sixth when Schreckengost scored on a fielder's choice from Zach Giczewski, Carson Jones' pinch-hit single drove in Alex Conaway and Chuck Lawing drove Jones and Giczewski home with a single to left field. 

The Bearcats increased the lead to 10-2 in the seventh on a two-run double from Jones and an RBI single from Bailey Connell. Colton Yeager capped the scoring in the ninth with an RBI double.

For Lander, Yeager batted 3-for-6, while Conaway, Jones and Reed Gray had two hits each.

For Anderson, Tyler Miller, William Thomas and Michael Rochester tallied two hits apiece.
