Baseball opens home portion of schedule Tuesday night

GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team returns to the friendly confines of Dolny Stadium for the first time in 2017 as the Bearcats host Newberry for a non-conference game on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.

 Lander (0-3) is in its 20th season of baseball. The Bearcats are beginning their sixth season at Dolny Stadium.

• The Bearcats have won two of their last three home openers. 

• Lander holds an all-time record of 566-444 for a winning percentage of .560. 

• The Bearcats were picked fourth in the Peach Belt Conference preseason coaches poll, earning one first-place vote, after advancing to the PBC Tournament championship game last season. Lander finished in second place during the regular season.

• Head coach Jason Burke played at Lander from 2001-02. Burke is the sixth head coach in Lander baseball history.

• Lander's pitching staff owned a 3.98 ERA last season, the lowest in the PBC.

• The Bearcats welcomed 12 newcomers this fall. The group features seven freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and a graduate transfer.
