GREENWOOD - The No. 6 ranked Lander baseball team was designated the No. 2 seed in this week's NCAA Division II Southeast Regional and will face seventh-seeded Mount Olive in a first-round game of the double-elimination tournament hosted by Columbus State, May 19-23, at Ragsdale Field. The Southeast Regional champion, along with seven other region champions, will advance to the College World Series in Cary, N.C., May 28 - June 4.
The Bearcats (36-14), runner-up to Columbus State in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, will meet Mount Olive (30-19) at 3 p.m., Thursday, May 19. The Lander winner, will go against the No. 3 Belmont Abbey (38-14-1) vs. No. 6 Catawba (34-19) winner.
Top-seeded Columbus State (40-12) earned a first-round bye and will meet the No. 4 USC Aiken (37-16)/No. 5 Tusculum (36-16) winner.
Mount Olive is a familiar opponent to the Bearcats as they split a season-opening, two-game series at Lander's Dolny Stadium. Mount Olive won the first game, 8-5, on Saturday, Jan. 30, while the Bearcats took the Sunday game, 8-6.
