5 named to All-Peach Belt Conference baseball first team

GREENWOOD - The nationally ranked Lander baseball team placed five players on the All-Peach Belt Conference first team it was announced at a banquet tonight (May 10) at Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.

Making the All-PBC team are: designated hitter Thomas Berry, a senior from Rocky Mount, N.C.; outfielder Zach Daly, a senior from Gastonia, N.C.; starting pitcher Will Jones, a senior from Cordele, Ga.; relief pitcher Brandon White, a junior from Chapin, S.C.; and utility player Colby Lusignan, a senior from Eustis, Fla.

Berry, who started all 48 games, batted .341 with 13 home runs, 12 doubles, 43 runs scored, 45 walks and 54 RBI. He had a .636 slugging percentage to go along with a .489 on-base percentage. He is tied with two other former Bearcats as Lander's all-time leader in home runs with 28 and is second on LU's career list in walks with 148. Nationally, Berry ranks fourth in walks. In PBC statistics, Berry is first in walks, fourth in on-base percentage, seventh in home runs, and eighth in slugging percentage.

Daly has started all 48 games and has a team-high 20 home runs (which ties the Lander single-season record), six doubles, one triple, 59 runs scored, 66 RBI and 26 walks. He has a .649 slugging percentage, .426 on-base percentage and is 12-of-14 in stolen base attempts. Nationally, Daly ranks sixth in total home runs. In PBC statistics, Daly is first in home runs, second in hit by pitch (15), third in RBI, fifth in plate appearances (248), seventh in total bases (131) and slugging percentage, and eighth in runs.

Jones, who also earned All-PBC honors in 2015 at the utility position, posted a 7-2 record on the mound with 79 strikeouts in 85.1 innings of action His ERA is 3.48. He set the Lander single-game record of 13 strikeouts against Young Harris on Feb. 27. Jones, who doubles as an infielder, batted .242 with three homers, seven doubles, 18 runs scored, 15 RBI and 12 walks. He has a .411 slugging percentage and .360 on-base percentage. In PBC statistics, he is second in innings pitched, fourth in wins, fifth in games started (13) and strikeouts, sixth in complete games (1) and earned run average. He was selected the PBC Pitcher of the Week on Feb. 29.

White has made 25 appearances and has posted a 2-2 record with 10 saves. He has struck out 41 batters in 28.1 innings pitched and has an 0.95 ERA. In the PBC, he is first in saves and eighth in batting average against (.179). He hold the Lander career record in saves with 23 and shares the LU single-season school record with 12.

Lusignan, who started 46 games, leads Lander with a .412 batting average and has 11 home runs, two triples, 17 doubles, 55 runs, 59 RBI and 28 walks. He has a .691 slugging percentage and .511 on-base percentage. In PBC statistics, Lusignan is second in putouts (401), third in on-base percentage, fourth in slugging percentage and total bases (134), and seventh in batting average, doubles and RBI. He was selected the PBC Player of the Week on Feb. 2.
