NCAA ranks Lander No. 1 in first Southeast Region poll

GREENWOOD - Lander is the top-ranked baseball team in the NCAA's first official Southeast Region rankings it was announced this week. The NCAA's rankings are used to determine the seedings and host institutions for the upcoming regional tournaments.

Lander, which is 35-12 overall, is followed by: 2. Columbus State (35-10), 3. Belmont Abbey (34-11-1), 4. USC Aiken (33-14), 5. Erskine (35-11), 6. Newberry (32-17-1), 7. Catawba (31-17), 8. Tusculum (32-15), and 9. Augusta (29-16).

  • The regional tournament will be held May 19-22 at a yet-to-be-determined site.
  • The Bearcats' next game will be at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, when they host non-conference opponent Erskine College in their regular-season finale at Dolny Stadium. The game has been designated "Sports Break Appreciation Day."
  • In national polls released this earlier this week, Lander was ranked No. 10 by D2 Baseball News and No. 11 by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
  • The Peach Belt Conference Tournament will be hosted by Francis Marion University, May 11-15, in Florence, S.C.
