No. 20 Lander baseball triumphs over Limestone, 7-3

GAFFNEY -The No. 20-ranked Lander baseball team won its 15th victory in the month of March when they downed Limestone College, 7-3, Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Founders FCU Stadium.

Lander improves to Lander is 27-8, while Limestone drops to 13-23.

Nathan Blaylock (3-0) earned the win for the Bearcats walking one and two earned runs on two hits in one inning of work.

Limestone's Chad Green (0-2) took the loss after striking out one, walking two and allowing two earned runs on four hits in three innings.

Thomas Berry's two-run homer in the first inning plated Matt White and put the Bearcats up 2-0, then the Bearcats added another run in the fourth when Alex Conaway advanced home on a wild pitch.

Limestone knotted the score at 3-all in the fifth when Ian Hinson's RBI single plated Austin Marcellus, Chris Ford scored on a passed ball, and Hinson later went home on Alex Oleszkowicz's RBI groundout.

But the Bearcats regained the lead in the sixth on Mason Dodd's RBI single that plated Colby Lusignan, then Lusignan drove in Will Jones in the seventh to make it 5-3.

White's solo homer in the ninth stretched it to 6-3 for the Bearcats and Conaway drove in Sage Cornatzer for Lander's final run.

For Lander, Lusignan went 2-for-5 with one double and Conaway batted 2-for-4.
