GREENWOOD - Reigning Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Week Mason Dodd batted a school-record 6-for-6 with a career-high six RBI and the No. 22-ranked Lander baseball team posted season-highs for runs scored and hits Tuesday night as Bearcats defeated Claflin University, 22-4, in a non-conference game at Dolny Stadium.
Dodd, who also racked up six RBI, broke the record of five hits in a game held by multiple players.
The Bearcats, who pounded out 25 hits, improve to 24-6 overall, while the Panthers drop to 11-18.
Colton Rogers (3-1) earned the victory on the mound after striking out 10 and allowing three earned runs on six hits in six complete innings.
Claflin's Wendell Ferguson (1-3) was tagged with the loss with one strikeout, one walk and 12 earned runs on 11 hits in 1.2 innings.
The Panthers' Christopher Gilliam put Claflin up 2-0 in the first inning with a two-run double that plated Rashad Bivens and Michael Kendrick.
Lander stretched the lead to 12-2 in the second after Matt White drove in Reed Gray; Ryan Troutman scored on a bases-loaded hit by pitch; Thomas Berry singled in White; Dodd's double to right field sent Taylor Kellner and Daly home; Berry scored on Gray's sacrifice fly; and Troutman's RBI single plated Alex Conaway and Dodd.
The Bearcats added a run the fourth inning on Daly's RBI double that sent Troutman home.
Claflin cut the Lander lead to 13-3 in the fifth inning on Jesse Minter's RBI double.
The Bearcats extended its lead to 18-3 in the sixth on Kellner's RBI single to right centerfield that scored White and Troutman; Dodd's RBI single that plated Kellner and Gatlin Minick; and Jones scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Lander added another three runs in the seventh when Minick scored on Dodd's RBI single; Conaway drove in Kellner; and Cornatzer scored on Grady's RBI groundout.
The Panthers notched their final run in the eighth on Bivens RBI double off the left centerfield wall.
Dodd capped the game with an RBI single in the eighth that gave Lander a 22-4 lead.
In addition to Dodd's 6-for-6 night, Kellner batted 4-for-6 with four runs and three RBI; White went 4-for-7 with three runs and one RBI; Troutman 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBI; and Berry 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.
Minter batted 3-for-4 for the Panthers.
