GREENWOOD - Lander's Will Jones, a senior from Cordele, Ga., was named the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week it was announced today.
Jones, who also plays in the infield, tossed a complete-game shutout as the Bearcats beat Young Harris 2-0 to open their three-game series last Saturday.
Jones scattered seven hits, issued no walks and struck out 13. He struck out the side in order in the fourth, never allowed more than two hits in any inning and YHC baserunners reached third only one time. He set down the side in order in the sixth, seventh and eighth, retiring 10 in a row during that stretch.
He threw 115 pitches in the complete-game effort, 84 of those for strikes. He also hit in Lander's other three games of the week with a .273 average, a double and an RBI. Jones is fourth in the PBC in innings pitched and sixth in strikeouts.
