YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – Will Jones set a school record with 13 strikeouts and tossed his first career complete game as Lander blanked Young Harris, 2-0, in a Peach Belt Conference game at Zell B. Miller Field on Saturday afternoon.
Lander improves to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions drop to 4-7, 0-4.
Jones (2-2) tossed 115 pitches and limited Young Harris to just seven hits on the day, while not allowing a single base on balls.
Young Harris's Donald Frew (0-3) suffered the loss, striking out three, walking five and allowing one earned run on five hits in eight innings.
Lander took a 2-0 lead in the third inning after Matt White reached on an error, Colby Lusignan singled and Thomas Berry walked to load the bases. With one out, John Mangum laced a 1-1 pitch through the left side of the infield, scoring White and Lusignan.
Young Harris threatened in the fifth inning, putting runners on the corners with two out. However, Jones induced a ground ball to third base to end the inning and keep the Mountain Lions off the board.
Jones dominated the final four frames, retiring 13 of Young Harris's final 14 batters.
For Lander, Mangum batted 2-for-4 with two RBI. Berry was 1-for-3, while Lusignan and Taylor Kellner both went 1-for-4.
