No. 26 Baseball uses six-run first inning to down Claflin

ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The No. 26-ranked Lander baseball team exploded for six runs in the first inning Wednesday afternoon en route to a 14-5 non-conference victory against Claflin College at Mirmow Field.

Lander improves to 8-2 overall, while Claflin drops to 2-8.

Sam Linn (1-0) earned his first win on the mound for the Bearcats, striking out five, walking three and allowing one earned run on two hits in five innings of work. The Bearcats also pitched Tripper Ergle, Brandon White and Harper Grier, who held the Panthers to just five hits.

Torriun Towers (0-2) suffered the loss for Claflin after walking two and allowing six earned runs on four hits in one inning.

John Mangum (1-for-3, two RBI) and Taylor Kellner (2-for-4, two runs scored, two RBI) both homered for the Bearcats. Kellner's two-run shot was in the first inning, while Mangum crushed his in the sixth. Zach Daly (2-for-4, three RBI), Colby Lusignan (1-for-4, two RBI), Will Jones (1-for-4), and Jordan Curtis (2-for-5, one RBI) all doubled.

Lander will next face USC Aiken in a three-game, Peach Belt Conference series this weekend at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. Friday's first game will begin at 4 p.m.
