GREENWOOD - Lander's Colby Lusignan, a senior first baseman from Eustis, Fla., was named the season's first Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week it was announced by the league office today.
In Lander's season-opening, two-game series against nationally ranked Mount Olive, Lusignan hit .833 with a 1.333 slugging percentage as the No. 32 Bearcats opened 2016 by splitting two games with No. 29 Trojans.
Lusignan went a perfect 3-for-3 in the opener, then came back in game two with a 2-for-3 outing that included a grand slam. That shot in the seventh inning sparked Lander's comeback as they erased a 6-0 deficit to win 8-6.
Lusignan was just as solid a first base, making no errors in 20 chances with an assist. For the weekend he had a .889 on-base percentage and leads the PBC in hits, batting average and slugging percentage.
