Tusculum rallies in the sixth to defeat Lander baseball, 5-4

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tusculum baseball team rallied for two runs in the sixth inning Thursday afternoon to claim a 5-4 non-conference victory over Lander at Pioneer Park.

Tusculum improves to 12-6 overall, while the Bearcats move to 10-12.

Cameron Carney (1-0) earned the victory on the mound, striking out two and allowing two hits in 2.2 innings.

Lander's Cameron Tekker (0-2) suffered the loss after walking two, and allowing two earned runs on three hits in one inning.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Matt White scored on a throwing error and Weston Lawing went home on Alex Conaway's sacrifice fly.

Tusculum tied the game at 2-all in the second inning after Kevin Victoriano scored on an error and Jeovanny Tolentino doubled in Chris Waylock.

The Pioneers grabbed its first lead of the game in the fifth when J.J. Wesley advanced home on Creighton Wilke's sacrifice fly to go up 3-2.

But the Bearcats came back in the sixth and knotted the game at 3-3 on Conaway's RBI single plated Lawing.

Wilke's two-RBI single in the sixth scored Tolentino and Wesley to put the Pioneers back up 5-3.

Lander rallied in the ninth for one run as Colby Painter drove in Conaway.

Lawing and Conaway had two hits apiece for the Bearcats.
