GREENWOOD – Weston Lawing stroked a dramatic, game-winning, RBI double to left centerfield Tuesday night to lead the Lander baseball team to a 3-2 come-from-behind, non-conference victory over Newberry College at Dolny Stadium.
Lander improves to 9-8 overall, while Newberry slips to 9-7.
Lawing's team-leading ninth double drove in Will Jones, who was also credited with the victory on the mound.
Jones, who improves to 3-1, struck out one and allowed one hit in one-inning of relief. In all, Lander used four pitchers.
The Wolves' Daniel Nations (1-1) took the loss after allowing one earned run on one hit in one-third of an innings.
The Wolves jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third on D.J. Martinez's RBI double that plated Jacob Bass, and Robert Kosch's RBI single that drove in Martinez.
Matt White cut the Newberry lead to 2-1 in the bottom half of the inning when he singled, advanced to third on back-to-back wild pitches, then scored on Lawing's RBI groundout.
The Bearcats tied it up at 2-all in the fifth when after Jones doubled, then scored on White's RBI single to centerfield.
Jones, Lawing and White all had two hits for the Bearcats.
Kosch and Martinez had two hits apiece for Newberry.
