Third-ranked Lander baseball falls to Flagler, 8-7

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Flagler College baseball completed its three-game Peach Belt Conference series sweep of No. 3-ranked Lander Sunday afternoon when the Saints upset the Bearcats, 8-7, at Drysdale Field.

Flagler improves to 7-1 overall and 3-0 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 5-5, 0-3.

Flagler's Michael Maiocco (3-0) earned the victory on the mound after striking out seven, walking two and allowing five earned runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings.

Lander's Andrew Reardon (0-2) suffered the loss with four strikeouts, three walks and three earned runs on six hits in 3.2 innings.

The Bearcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the second inning when Chris Hyatt double in Weston Lawing, Zach Giczewski drove in Alex Conaway and Hyatt, and Matt White scored on a throwing error.

Flagler cut the margin to 4-3 in the bottom half after Frankie Sagarese's single scored Jon Roszel, then Igor Baez's RBI double plated Sagarese and Nick Oberg.

The Saints erupted for five runs in the fourth to take an 8-4 advantage. Skylar Fox scored on Oberg's sacrifice bunt, Fox advanced on Kolin McMillen's bases-loaded walk, Andrew Brodbeck drove in Todd Juliano, and Lorenzo Butler's two-RBI single sent McMillen and Sagarese home.

The Bearcats trimmed the lead to 8-7 when Hyatt went home on Matt White's sacrifice fly in the sixth, Thomas Berry smacked a solo home run to right centerfield in the seventh, and Will Jones crossed the plate on Conaway's groundout in the ninth.

For Lander, which outhit Flagler, 15-8, Lawing batted 3-for-5, while Giczewski, Colby Lusignan, Hyatt, Conaway and White had two hits each.

For the Saints, Brodbeck batted 2-for-3.
