Lander baseball earns top seed in Peach Belt Tournament

GREENWOOD - The No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team will be the top seed in this weekend's Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which will be hosted by USC Aiken, May 10-11, at Roberto Hernandez Stadium. (Tournament Bracket)

The tournament champion earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Southeast Regional, which will be held May 15-18 at a yet to be determined site.

The Bearcats, who reached the 2012 PBC Tournament championship game, have won a school-record 43 games and will face eighth-seeded Francis Marion at 10 a.m., Friday, in a quarterfinal-round matchup.

The Lander/FMU winner will play the victor of No. 4 Georgia College/No. 5 UNC Pembroke at 10 a.m., Sunday, in the semifinals.

In the lower half of the bracket, the winner of the No. 2 Columbus State/No. 7 Montevallo game will meet the No. 3 USC Aiken/No. 6 Armstrong Atlantic victor in the other semifinal at 1:30, Sunday.

The championship game is set for 5 p.m., Sunday.
