Bearcats still No. 2 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll

GREENWOOD - Fresh off winning its first-ever Peach Belt Conference regular-season championship, the Lander baseball team remained at No. 2 in this week's Collegiate Baseball Newspaper national poll.

The Bearcats, who are 43-6 overall and riding a 13-game winning streak, trail only the University of Tampa. Tampa is 45-2 overall and has won its last 15 games. The Spartans only losses were to Georgia College, 13-5, on Feb. 16, and to Florida Southern, 13-6, on March 30.

The Bearcats, who are five wins passed the previous single-season school record of 38, clinched the PBC title last weekend after sweeping Armstrong Atlantic, 3-2, 8-7, and 10-4, in a home series at Dolny Stadium. On Tuesday, Lander won it's ninth straight game against Erskine, 8-2.

Lander will be the top seed in the PBC Tournament, which will be held May 10-11 at USC Aiken's Roberto Hernandez Stadium.

Tampa totaled 480 points in the poll, while Lander had 464. Minnesota State (36-7) is third with 448 points and is followed by: 4. Delta State (35-9) 424, 5. Arkansas Tech (41-8) 418, 6. Chico State (35-9) 392, 7. Mount Olive (40-11) 386, 8. West Florida (31-9) 380, 9. Colorado Mesa (34-9) 350, and 10. Columbus State (36-14) 326.

The second 10 are: 11. St. Cloud State (31-10) 312, 12. Central Missouri (35-14) 310, 13. Texas A&M Kingsville (33-14) 280, 14. Southern Arkansas (34-16) 268, 15. USC Aiken (35-13) 266, 16. St. Edward's (34-12) 222, 17. Cal Baptist (35-11) 220, 18. Florida Southern (31-15) 218, 19. Lynn (33-13) 208, and 20. U.C. San Diego (29-13) 180.
