GREENWOOD – Connor Lewis and Thomas Berry each had home runs, while Ryan Jones remained unbeaten on the mound as the No. 2-ranked Lander baseball team won its 10th straight game in an 8-2 non-conference victory over Erskine College Tuesday night at Dolny Stadium.
Lander, which has won nine straight times against Erskine, improves to 40-6 overall, while Erskine falls to 32-13. The Bearcats, who improve on their single-season record for wins in a season, lead the all-time series against the Flying Fleet, 25-14.
Jones (9-0) struck out four and allowed two earned runs on five hits in seven innings.
Erskine's JR Black (4-2) suffered the loss with one walk and two earned runs on two hits in two innings. The Flying Fleet used six pitchers in the game.
Erskine jumped out to a 1-0 advantage in the second inning after Joey Wilson drove an RBI double down the right field line that plated Sam Cothran.
With bases loaded and two outs, Lander tied the Flying Fleet at 1-all when Colby Painter scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Erskine regained the lead at 2-1 in the fifth on Wilson's solo home run over the left field fence.
Lander's single-season home run record holder Lewis, who leads the country in roundtrippers, crushed his 16th of the year over the right centerfield wall to tie the score at 2-2.
Lewis' RBI double in the sixth scored Patrick Grady, then he later scored on Berry's single to deep centerfield to put Lander up 4-2.
Lander erupted for four runs in the eighth to take an 8-2 lead. Lewis' RBI single plated Grady, Berry added a two-run homer, and Thomas Bess' run-scoring single sent Weston Lawing home. Grady extended his Lander single-season record for runs scored to 73.
Lewis and Berry had three hits each for the Bearcats, while Erik Lunde added two.
Wilson and Zach Smith had two hits apiece for Erskine.
