Lander baseball No. 3 in Collegiate Baseball's national poll

GREENWOOD – The Lander baseball team slipped one spot to No. 3 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's national rankings it was released today (April 7).

The Bearcats went 3-2 last week, including winning a Peach Belt Conference series against No. 14 USC Aiken. Lander opened the week with a loss to PBC rival Georgia Southwestern, 8-7, in the third game of the series which was postponed from Sunday; defeated Winston-Salem State, 27-8, their highest run total of the season; then won the first (8-3) and third (18-4) games in the USCA series, while losing the second (6-1).

Tampa (35-2) remained the top team in the country with 480 points and was followed by: 2. West Florida (25-5) 462, 3. Lander (31-6) 442, 4. Minnesota State (23-6) 438, 5. Lynn (28-8) 418, 6. Delta State (24-7) 378, 7. Cal-Poly Pomona (24-8) 376, 8. Southern Arkansas (29-10) 354, 9. Arkansas Tech (28-8) and West Texas A&M (27-9) 350.

Rounding out the top 20 are: 11. Chico State (26-7) 342, 12. Georgia College (26-7) 302, 13. St. Cloud State (19-6) 276, 14. Florida Southern (25-11) 272, 15. Grand Valley State (19-7) 266, 16. Columbus State (28-11) 218, 17. USC Aiken (26-10) 200, 18. Shippensburg (21-8) 186, 19. Mount Olive (28-11) 178, and 20 Colorado Mesa (23-8) 160.

Lander will travel to Anderson (S.C.) University on Wednesday for a 6 o'clock single game, then host Georgia College on Friday, Saturday and Sunday in a three-game PBC series.
