No. 14 USCA baseball upsets Lander, 6-1, in Game 2

AIKEN – The No. 14 USC Aiken baseball team won Game 2 of its Peach Belt Conference series Saturday when the Pacers upset No. 2 Lander, 6-1, at Robert Hernandez Stadium.

USCA improves to 26-9 overall and 13-7 in the PBC, while Lander falls to 30-6, 17-6. The third and final game of the series will begin at 1 p.m., Sunday.

The Pacers' Matt Hissong (3-1) was awarded the win on the mound after striking out four, walking two and allowing one earned run on four hits in eight innings.

Lander's Taylor Alvarez (7-2) suffered the loss, striking out three, walking four and allowing three earned runs on four hits in 5.1 innings.

USC Aiken went up 1-0 in the first inning when Belcher scored on Ty Barkell's fielder's choice. Then, in the third, Tyler Moore scored on Metzler's fielder's choice.

Colby Painter tripled for Lander in the fourth and the Bearcats cut the lead to 2-1 when he scored on a wild pitch.

The Pacers made it 3-1 in the sixth after Grayson Smith scored on a bases-loaded walk.

The Pacers added their final three runs in the eighth inning when Belcher singled in Miller, Kody Belcher scored on a Lander throwing error, and Moore went home on Barkell's sacrifice fly.

For USCA, Belcher and Sean Miller had two hits each, while Lander's Painter also collected two hits.
