Lander No. 2 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper rankings

GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team earned its highest ranking of the season when it moved up two spots to No. 2 this week in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's national poll released late Monday.

Lander improved to 23-3 last week when the Bearcats defeated Newberry, 5-2, in a non-conference game on the road, then swept GRU Augusta in their three-game Peach Belt Conference series at Dolny Stadium. Lander downed the Jaguars, 6-3, 12-3, 10-2.

Tampa (23-1) remained the top-ranked team in the country with 480 points, and is followed by: 2. Lander (23-3) 464, 3. West Florida (17-4) 432, 4. Minnesota State (12-3) 418, 5. Lynn (21-5) 414, 6. West Texas A&M (20-4) 406, 7. Georgia College (18-4) 384, 8. Southern Arkansas (21-6) 370, 9. Cal Poly Pomona (19-6) 346, and 10. St. Mary's (19-6) 328.

The second 10 are: 11. Cal State Chico (16-5) 312, 12. Alabama-Hunstville (18-7) 296, 13. Arkansas Tech (18-6) 292, 14. UNC Pembroke (20-6) 256, 15. Nova Southeastern (18-5) 242, 16. Florida Southern (17-8) 220, 17. St. Cloud State (11-3) 194, 18. Delta State (12-6) 192, 19. Shippensburg (11-3) 188, and 20. Colorado Mesa (14-3) 184.
