GREENWOOD – The No. 13-ranked Lander baseball team won its sixth straight game Tuesday evening when the Bearcats defeated Newberry, 13-1, in a non-conference game at Dolny Stadium.
Lander improves to 14-1 overall, while the Wolves dip to 9-7.
The Bearcat's Ryan Jones (3-0) earned the victory on the mound after striking out four, walking three and allowing one earned run on seven hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
Newberry's Will Robbins (1-2) was tagged with the loss with one strikeout, two walks and five earned runs on four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
The Bearcats made it 5-0 in the second on Grady's two-run homer over the left field wall, then added another run in the third on Berry's solo homer.
Newberry trimmed the lead to 6-1 in the fifth on Ryan Cranmer's RBI single that plated Alex Kirby.
Lander added two more runs in the fifth after Ramos doubled in Lawing, then Ramos stole third and scored on a throwing error.
For Lander, Lawing batted 4-for-5, Ramos 3-for-4, Lunde 2-for-4, Grady 2-for-3, Berry 2-for-4 and Poole 2-for-4.
Newberry's Cranmer and D.J. Martinez each collected two hits.
