Lewis, Grady hit grand slams in win over Crusaders

TIGERVILLE, S.C. – Connor Lewis and Patrick Grady both had grand slam home runs, while Dylan Wolchik earned his second win of the season Friday afternoon as the No. 20-ranked Lander baseball team defeated North Greenville University, 16-9, at Ashmore Field.

The Bearcats remain undefeated at 5-0, while North Greenville drops to 1-3.

Wolchik (2-0) struck out four, walked two and allowed three earned runs on seven hits in five innings of work.

North Greenville's Kelvin Minnig (0-1) suffered the loss, striking out one, walking five and allowing four earned runs on two hits in three innings pitched.

Lander struck first with four runs in the third inning  on a Graham Ramos sacrifice fly, Patrick Grady went home on a wild pitch, and Thomas Berry and Lewis crossed the plate on a Crusader error.

North Greenville trimmed the lead to 4-1 in the bottom of the inning on Allen Staton's RBI single.

Lewis made it 8-1 in the fourth with his grand slam, his fourth homer of the season.

The Crusaders cut it to 8-3 in the fifth on RBI singles by George and Polk.

The Bearcats exploded for eight runs in the sixth. Lewis walked and later scored on a balk;  Berry scored when Austin Dunn was hit by a pitch; Colby Painter scored on a wild pitch, Erik Lunde singled in Zach Giczewski, and Grady hit his grand slam.

North Greenville rallied for four runs in the bottom of the inning on Staton's grand slam, then added two more runs in the ninth on RBI singles by Taylor Hollifield and Connor Edwards.

For Lander, Lewis batted 2-for-4 and Lunde 2-for-5.
