LU No. 20 in Collegiate Baseball Newspaper preseason poll

GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team, which opens the 2014 season Saturday, Feb. 1 with a home doubleheader against Belmont Abbey, is ranked No. 20 in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper's preseason national poll.

Lander, which posted a 35-16 record last year, finished the 2013 season ranked No. 23.

Tampa (47-12 last season) tops the poll and is followed by: 2. Minnesota St.-Mankato (42-9), 3. St. Edwards (44-18), 4. West Florida (39-14), 5. Mount Olive (48-8), 6. Grand Valley State (38-19), 7. St. Cloud State (37-11), 8. Delta State (44-11-1), 9. Franklin Pierce (37-19), and 10. Shippensburg (32-23).

The next 10 are: 11. Texas A&M-Kingsville (42-18), 12. Chico State (37-18), 13. Southern Arkansas (42-17), 14. USC Aiken (42-13), 15. St. Mary's (39-17), 16. Colorado Mesa (45-11), 17. Missouri Western State (40-12), 18. Cal State Monterey Bay (39-17), 19. Central Missouri (36-13) and Lander (35-16).

Rounding out the poll are: 21. Valdosta State (34-18), 22. Seton Hill (42-17), 23. UNC Pembroke (38-16), 24. Catawba (36-16), 25. Coker (38-16), 26. Wilmington (43-14), 27. Southern New Hampshire (35-19), 28. St. Leo (35-14-1), 29. Millersville (40-18), and 30. Lewis (33-18).
