Baseball to face No. 17 Columbus in PBC Tourney

GREENWOOD - The Lander baseball team, which just completed the regular season with a 28-22 overall record, has earned a berth in the Peach Belt Conference Baseball Tournament for the first time since 1998. The double-elimination tournament will be hosted by Columbus State University, May 8-12, at Golden Park. (Tournament Website | Bracket)

The PBC sponsored a baseball tournament from 1992, when the conference first formed, until 1998, the inaugural year of baseball at Lander. The tournament returned in 2006 and has been played ever since.

Lander will be the No. 4 seed in the East Division and will open the tournament against No. 17 Columbus State (32-15), the top seed in the West Division at 4 p.m., Sunday.

In the other half of the bracket, East No. 2 Armstrong Atlantic (33-15) will play West No. 3 North Georgia (32-17) at 7:30 p.m., Sunday. The CSU/Lander winner will face the AASU/NGCSU winner at 7:30 p.m., Monday. The two losers will advance to the loser's bracket for a 4 p.m. contest on Monday.

In the top bracket, West No. 2 Georgia College (35-15) will play East No. 3 UNC Pembroke (38-10) at at 9 a.m., Sunday, followed by East No. 1 Francis Marion (35-12) against West No. 4 Augusta State (21-28) at 12:30.

The championship game is set for 1 p.m., Thursday.
